2005年に東京都現代美術館で企画された
「ルオー展」で販売された作品集です。

ルオー（GEORGES ROUAULT）は
フォーヴィスムに分類される
19世紀～20世紀期のフランスの画家。

ただこの分類を超越してルオー本人は
「画壇」や「流派」とは一線を画し
ひたすら自己の芸術を追求した
孤高の画家だったと言われています。

20歳代はレンブラントの影響が見られ
茶系を主とした暗い色調が特徴。

30歳代以降は独特の骨太の輪郭線と色彩
そして版画があらわれていきます。

画題は娼婦、道化、サーカス芸人など
社会の底辺にいる人々が多く描かれています。

この作品集の中身そのものも見応えがありますが
さらにルオーの製作活動を収めた写真も含まれていて充実しています。

さらに装丁も美しく
表紙のデザインにはひきこまれました。

枠組みとヘルベチカ調のシンプルな書体の太細での構成です。

たまに見返しながら部屋にずっと置いておける雰囲気の良い一着です。

This collection of works was sold at the "Rouault Exhibition" organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in 2005.

Rouault (GEORGES ROUAULT) was a French painter of the 19th and 20th centuries, classified as Fauvisme.

However, transcending this classification, Rouault himself is said to have been a solitary painter, who was distinct from "painting circles" and "schools" and devoted himself to the pursuit of his own art.

In his 20s, he was influenced by Rembrandt and characterized by dark tones, mainly brown.

From his 30s onward, his distinctive bold outlines, colors, and prints began to emerge.

The subjects of his paintings include prostitutes, clowns, circus performers, and other people at the bottom of society.

The contents of the book itself are worth seeing, but it is also enriched with photographs of Rouault's work.

The binding is also beautiful. The design of the cover is very attractive.

It is composed of a framework and a simple Helvetica-style typeface in bold and thin lines.

It is a piece with a good atmosphere that you can keep in your room for a long time, looking back on it from time to time.
